Measuring the phase noise sideband is easy if the gigahertz spectrum analyzer has a dynamic range of 160 dB and a bandwidth of 1 Hz. All sources can be measured around the fundamental frequency. However, devices that do not currently have such performance must use the underlying technology. RF spectrum measurement, frequency discriminator and quadrature phase detector are three good measurement programs.
