本文所介绍的美英两国文学青年的颓废倾向是一个值得重视的现象;当然,如作者指出的,这是一种社会现象,而且反映了20世纪中叶这两个国家一部分人们的生活,不过原区并不是什么原子弹的威肋,而是他们日暮途穷的社会制度。没落的阶级是无法掌握自己的向运的;法西斯式的疯狂叫嚣和颓废主义的道德自杀,都只是垂死挣扎的不同形态罢了。所以这两个在作者看来说不定有一天要升为主流的文学派别,在我们看来,可能正是资产阶级文学的“尾声”呢。本文是根据作者主编的两派作家选集的序言摘译的;美国版即以“垮掉的一代和愤怒的青年”①为题;英国版改名为“抗议”②。今年4月17日的泰晤士报文学增刊以“道德上的无政府主义者”为题对本书作了评述,当然抱的是正统派的否定态度,不过读者不妨参看。
Of course, as the author points out, this is a social phenomenon and reflects the lives of some people in these two countries in the mid-20th century. However, the original decadent tendencies of literary youth in the United States and Britain as described in this article are worth noting. It is not the prerogative of atomic bombs but the social system of their poor days and nights. Declining classes are unable to grasp their own fortunes; fascist clamor and moral decadent moral suicide are just different forms of dying struggles. Therefore, the two literary factions that the author might see might one day rise into the mainstream may, in our opinion, be the “endings” of bourgeois literature. This article is based on the preface of the author’s anthology of two schools of writers; the American edition is entitled “The Beat Generation and the Furious Youth”; the English edition is renamed the “Protest”. This April 17 this year, The Times Extrapolation of Literature quoted the book as a “moral anarchist”, of course, embracing the orthodoxy’s negative attitude, but readers may wish to see.
