As the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Ocean and Atmospheric Administration has not formally signed a transfer contract with Private Earth Observing Satellite Co. (according to recent reports from the US Journal, it may be signed by the end of September), the U.S. Department of Budget Management refused to pay 250 million of the private contracts over the past five years. The $10,000 subsidy resulted in a significant delay in the transfer of Landsat-5. This will inevitably affect the development and launch of succeeding stars. Under this circumstance, if competitors, the French-developed “Sport” satellites, are successfully launched into orbit in October, they will soon be put into commercial use, posing a threat to the United States. If the United States does not quickly reverse this unfavorable situation, there will be a large number of latecomers in France.
