Objective: To investigate the effect of chewing gum on the recovery of gastrointestinal function in postoperative hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: The patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) resected were randomly divided into two groups: experimental group (53 cases) and control group (54 cases). The control group was given routine postoperative treatment, and no special intervention was used to influence the recovery of intestinal function. The experimental group began chewing gum on the first postoperative day three times a day for about 30 minutes until the sixth day after surgery or anal exhaust. Observe the recovery time of patients with postoperative bowel movements, anal exhaust or defecation time, hospital stay and the incidence of complications. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in the recovery of intestinal motility, the time of first excretion and defecation (P <0.05), the incidence of postoperative complications and the length of hospital stay (P = 0.147). Conclusion: Chewing gum can promote the recovery of intestinal function and reduce the incidence of postoperative gastrointestinal complications.
