同济大学与华盛顿大学以“可持续城市设计”为主题,拓展学生的“国际视野”为核心,典型“国外基地”为对象开展联合城市设计,面临着不同文化社会背景,国外调研时间有限、中外师生深层交流不便等难点。课程通过国外城市及基地专题研究,找寻指向设计的理念与策略;通过国外公共空间与公共生活调研,比较同一城市相似场所的活力与缺失;通过国外基地城市设计方案,掌握不同文化社会背景下城市基地研究与方案设计的方法。对其他联合教学在以下几个方面有借鉴作用:“走出去”的联合设计国际合作,规划与建筑“一体化”的教学模式,“综合性”的专题研究与主题提炼,“研究与方案并重”的多阶段训练等。
