In recent years, Shanghai’s afforestation has made rapid progress with remarkable achievements. It was approved by the Ministry of Construction as a national garden city earlier this year. At present, the green space newly developed in Shanghai is mainly concentrated in the suburbs or in the urban-rural areas. Compared with the downtown area or some old urban areas, it is quite difficult to increase the greening rate. So how do Shanghai promote the afforestation construction in the central city on a large scale in order to build a green network composed of “rings, wedges, corridors, gardens and forests?” Recently, I interviewed the newly retired garden from Shanghai Greening Authority Chen Xin, a senior engineer, made a communication about the current roof greening in Shanghai.
