The Chinese “women” were originally worn by ancient women as headscarves and hair accessories. They are borrowed here to refer to women; “suits” are beards and eyebrows, which are now used to refer to men. This is to replace people by obvious marks or individual characteristics of things. This is called “alternative” in rhetoric. The corresponding rhetoric in English is “Metonym.”
