In the 1930s, Langston Hughes created many revolutionary Radical Poems. These poems have been the subject of controversy since their publication. This article begins with the background of Hughes ’radical poetry writing and explores Hughes’ aesthetic changes in the 1930s and the impact of such changes on his radical poems and analyzes the reasons for his controversy. On the one hand, Hughes insisted on the practical poetics, while on the other hand, his radical poetry ignored the literary beauty of poetry to a certain extent. On the other hand, he emphasized poetry and folk culture more at this period Although this technique is often criticized by critics, it has created a poetic form that integrates various voices, integrates multiple cultures and reflects popular psychology. People should examine Hughes’ radical poetry from multiple perspectives, not to criticize it blindly.
