在英美,大多数人信奉基督教,为新生儿洗礼时,常用《圣经》中的人物或圣人的名字为婴儿取名。有时人们也从拉丁文,古希腊文,希伯莱文中取意思好听的词汇为孩子命名。另外,也有人使用中世纪小说中的人物或历史人物,乃至动植物的名称做名字。
In Great Britain and the United States, most people believe in Christianity. When baptizing newborns, the names of the characters or saints in the Bible are often used to name infants. Sometimes people use Latin, Ancient Greek, and Hebrew words to give children names. In addition, some people use names in medieval novels or historical figures, even animal and plant names.
