北京军区1864部队卫生科根据乳酸(常用的消毒剂)和醋都是弱酸,以及群众中用食醋防止胃肠道传染病的经验,调查了四个食品加工厂,发现酿醋工人很少患呼吸道传染病。他们于1968年冬开始应用食醋蒸熏消毒,预防流感。 1969年春冬,这个部队先后有13个连队发生了流感,12个连队经用这个办法第二天就控制了流行。而另一连队开始没有用这个办法,两天之后,全连60%的人染病,第三天进行了食醋蒸熏消毒,很快控制了蔓延。在几次野营拉练和驻地贫下中农中广泛应用,均收到了良好的效果。他们还在几个新兵队用这个方法预防流脑和流行性腮腺炎,也取得了较好的效果。中国医学科学院流研所,北京市卫生防疫站,北京军区总医院等单位实验证明,食醋对甲型链球菌、卡他球菌、肺炎双球菌、白色葡萄球菌及流感杆菌
