吕云所生在太行深处,自幼看惯了“凌虚抗势、天岭交气”的太行风姿,对哺育过他的山川草木,怀有特殊的眷恋。所以,当他日后步入艺术之途时,就把生活之根深深扎在太行这堵气凌万仞的巨石厚土之中。他的作品多表现故乡太行风情,在大学时代便立志开拓太行画派,成为画坛最早以传统技巧表现太行风情的人。早在20世纪60年代初创作的《漳河畔》组画及《老来红》,被评为全国美展优秀作品,收藏于中国美术馆并赴欧非7国展出;年甫弱冠,便以“太行人,太行情,写太行风”为画界所称道。他是太行山的儿子,太行山给了他生命,给了他灵感,给了他取之不尽、用之不竭的创作源泉。
