John Muir’s book, “My First Summer in the Sierra Nevada,” runs through the heroine’s first sense of new life as she delves into the mountains of California for the first time. His journey to mountaineering can be seen as a quest for primitiveness. Based on Muir’s faith in harmony, this article discusses the manifestation of the concept of harmony in nature in “The First Summer”, and then pays attention to the inner transformation that the hero undergoes in front of the mountain phenomenon. Finally, this article explores Muir’s awareness of this trip as a retrospective sacred spring source, pondering travelers’ sentiment in the alpine snow spring.
