The North Korean energy industry is jointly administered by the Ministry of Electric Power Industry, the Atomic Energy Department and the Ministry of Coal Industry. Coal and hydropower are the two major sources of energy the country depends on. The total installed capacity of the power station is about 10 000 MW. The installed capacity of hydropower in operation is about 5 000 MW, with an annual generating capacity of about 13 000 GW · h, accounting for about 67% of the country’s total generating capacity and 33% of thermal power.
