从化粤语常使用“VP-麽”格式发问。“VP-麽”格式由“麽”附着于VP之后构成,VP包括动词性成分和形容词性成分。用“VP-麽”格式发问,表示不确定是否VP。从语音、句法结构、功能和语义等方面分析,“VP-麽”式实质上属于“VP-neg”式反复问句。“麽”只能依附于VP之后,不能与否定词共现,也不能表测度或反诘,依然带有否定义,其实质与“VP-neg”式中的否定词并无区别,仍可将其定性为否定词。汉语史上曾发生过从“VP-无”式反复问句过渡到“VP麽”式是非问句的语法化过程,而从化粤语的“VP-麽”式只限于语音层面和句法位置的变化,还未发生语法化,这让我们观察到“VP-neg”式反复问句的具体演变进程。
