The times we live in are full of challenges, in particular the widening gap between the rich and the poor, the deepening of the population aging and the uncertainty of the labor market. Meeting these challenges depends to a large extent on the more equitable and more sustainable welfare system. The OECD National Welfare System Challenges Many OECD welfare systems are facing serious challenges. In the next few years, an aging population will increase the government’s budgetary pressure. According to our forecast, by 2060, medical and pension spending will rise from l3.9% in 2007 to around 20-24%. By 2050, by 2050, working-age population will decline by nearly 30% in the majority of OECD countries, making financing social security harder.
