Objective To understand the mediating effect of quality of life on pain and anxiety in middle-aged and elderly patients with glaucoma. Methods 450 patients with glaucoma who were treated in 5 top 3 hospitals in Liaoning Province between September 2015 and October 2016 were collected. The anxiety self-rating scale (SAS), the brief pain scale (BPI), the quality of life of glaucoma 15 items Patients (GQL15) were surveyed and analyzed using SPSS 19.0 software and Structural Equation Model 21.0. Results The average anxiety score was (44.49 ± 18.92) points, the average pain score was (37.03 ± 9.40) points and the average quality of life was (35.67 ± 9.85) points. There was a positive correlation between anxiety and quality of life and pain scores (r = 0.502, P <0.01; r = 0.337, P <0.01). There was a positive correlation between quality of life and pain scores (r = 0.244, P <0.01). Pain not only directly affected the level of anxiety in middle-aged and elderly patients with glaucoma, The intermediary function of quality of life indirectly affects its anxiety level, and the intermediary effect accounts for 42.20% of the total effect. Conclusion Quality of life in middle-aged and elderly patients with glaucoma is an intermediate variable between pain and anxiety.
