北京先农坛始建于明永乐年间,初名山川坛。清末,八国联军入侵北京,先农坛曾被美军用作练兵操场。1915年,先农坛被辟为城南公园。20世纪30年代初,先农坛东部成为体育运动场所,北部包括庆成宫在内的大部分地区成为市民住宅。1949年之后,先农坛西部主体建筑由育才学校征用。1979年,市政府公布先农坛为第二批北京市文物保护单位。2001年,国务院公布先农坛为第五批全国重点文物保护单位。1988年始,市文物局接收先农坛。
Beijing Xiannongtan was built in the Ming Yongle, the first name mountain altar. In the late Qing Dynasty, the Eight-Power Allied Forces invaded Beijing and Xiannongtan was used by the U.S. military as a training ground. In 1915, Xiannongtan was turned into Chengnan Park. In the early 1930s, the eastern part of Xiannongtan became a sports venue, and the northern part of Qingnonggung became a residential area in most of the area. After 1949, Xiannongtan western main building was requisitioned by Yucai School. In 1979, the municipal government announced Xiannongtan as the second batch of cultural relics protection units in Beijing. In 2001, the State Council announced Xiannongtan as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In 1988, the City Bureau of Cultural Relics received Xiannongtan.
