水葫芦是一种水生绿肥,它生长快、产量高、适应性广。其养分含量高,特别是钾尤为丰富。翻压后肥效迅速平稳而长。能维持和提高土壤肥力和有机质含量。对当季水稻的肥效接近紫云英而优于猪粪,第二季则优于紫云英而低于猪粪。但全年总增产效果,则比紫云英和猪粪都高。虽然水葫芦的 C/N 低于紫云英,由于它有一明显的腊质层,且木质素含量较高,故分解比紫云英慢,其粉碎程度影响其肥效。
