Since the early 1990s, the pace of bilateral economic and trade cooperation has started to accelerate. Before 2000, Japan had been China’s second largest trading partner after North Korea. However, since 2002, as a result of the “hostage-taking” and “North Korea nuclear crisis In the long run, with the gradual settlement of the ”hostages“ and ”North Korea nuclear issue" and the economic recovery of North Korea, the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides suffered a large decline. However, the prospects for the economic and trade cooperation between the DPRK and Japan are still relatively optimistic. However, the road will be very difficult and tortuous. It will take some time and both sides will make active efforts to change the situation.
