作者认为,灾害社会学是以与社会相关的一般灾害为研究对象的一门社会学分支学科,它探索包括自然型、人为型和天人型在内的一般社会灾害运动与社会发展相互作用的一般过程、特点和规律并寻求适用于一般社会灾害防治的通用理论、原则与方法。在中国开展灾害社会学研究,应在正确的哲学方法论指导下,将理论研究与应用研究相结合、将定性研究与定量研究相结合,在多个侧面和多个层次上逐项展开,从而在建立起人与自然的和谐关系基础上求得社会均衡、协调的发展。
