At the beginning of this century, the average life expectancy of women was 49.2 years. In the past 70 years, the average life expectancy has continuously risen every decade. By 1968, the average life expectancy of women in some countries has reached 76.9 years (Norway). In 1946, the average life expectancy of women exceeded 50 years for the first time in 1975, reaching 75.58 years in 1971, an average annual increase of about one year in 25 years. Due to the prolonged life of women around the world, a great number of issues concerning menopause are brought to the medical community. These have drawn the attention of clinical departments such as internal medicine, psychiatry, orthopedics and dentistry, especially the gynecology and endocrinology. The research work in the area is gradually leading the way.
