Objective To explore the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus infection and the occurrence and development of systemic lupus erythematosus. Methods The expression of Epstein-Barr virus (LMP1) and ZEBRA (Epstein-Barr virus) protein in peripheral blood of SLE patients with CD19 + and CD23 + B lymphocytes were detected by flow cytometry. Results The positive rate of LMP1 in CD19 + cells and CD23 + cells in active patients were higher than that in stable patients, both of which were higher than those in control group. The expression rate of LMP1 in CD23 + cells was higher than that in CD19 + cells, while there was no significant difference between two groups The expression of ZE-BRA was only found in the peripheral blood B lymphocytes of patients with SLE. The expression rates of ZEBRA in CD19 + and CD23 + cells in patients with active SLE were higher than those in stable patients, and the expression rate of ZEBRA in CD23 + cells was high In CD19 + cells, whereas in stable patients, there was no significant difference in the expression rates of ZEBRA between CD23 + cells and CD19 + cells. Conclusion The infection and replication of Epstein-Barr virus are associated with the activation of B lymphocytes and the occurrence and development of SLE.
