族群题材一直以来都是法国类型电影的重要组成部分。在左右两派政党交替执政的政治氛围之下,族群涉及的移民、种族、语言、宗教和文化等问题越发受到关注,族群题材影片多以同情的视角去展现多元文化社会的内在分裂与无奈。同情并非感化和抚平伤害的一剂良药,影片中对青年移民者,或第二代、第三代的人物影像处理和表现往往是最富争议的。他们的言语和形象成为映射社会深层次矛盾的关键因素,不仅反映出伊斯兰教义与“共和国价值”的兼容性问题,也成为评估政府民族政策成败的缩影,展现了欧洲社会多民族融合的当下景观。
