Modern solid-state electronics is based on semiconductors that have bandgap energy for electrons from E1 to E2. This shows that the semiconductor’s electronic energy does not have the value of this interval. The possibility of a similar band-gap system for photons has been demonstrated in the 1970s and is now available. They are called photonic crystals. Of course, there is no such thing as a complete analogy with an electron forbidden band and a photonic band gap crystal
