Serotonin (serotonin) is a newly discovered hormone that is a very important neuroendocrine fluid delivery factor in the body and is an important substance to maintain the normal body’s activity. Serotonin is the predecessor of tryptophan, the final metabolite 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid (referred to as 5-HIAA) excreted by the urine. Determining urinary 5-HIAA clearance is of great importance for understanding the physiological and pathological conditions associated with serotonin. In recent years, it has been proved that serotonin is the active substance of blood vessels, but its effect on blood pressure is not yet clear. The mechanism of certain antihypertensive drugs may be related to serotonin. To this end, we measured urinary 5-HIAA in patients with essential hypertension and measured the changes after stimulation with reserpine and adrenocorticotropic hormone.
