The use of spread spectrum or code-division techniques as a method of multiplexing multiple batches has been controversial. Certain advantages, such as mitigation and interference suppression of multipath, are generally acknowledged, but in the past its comparison with other multiplexing methods was considered less favorable. This article will illustrate the use of CDMA interference suppression features in terrestrial cellular telephone systems to increase their capacity many times over analog and other digital technologies.
