“豫剧皇后”是当年河南豫剧观众对著名豫剧表演艺术家陈素真的誉称。她的名望还蜚声陕西、甘肃、湖北、河北。天津、北京的文艺界还称赞她为“豫剧梅兰芳”。陈素真在戏曲艺术上的造诣是很深的。可以说在豫剧的发展史上,她是一个承前启后的佼佼者。三十年代后期以前,她致力于豫剧祥符(开封)调声腔艺术的改革和创造,把豫剧祥符调女声唱腔艺术提高到一个崭新的水平。由此,她被公认为祥符调流派的代表。她的唱腔被推为“祥符调正统”。
