威盛电子(VIA)结合诸多业内公司成立一个科技产业联盟。主要致力于 PC100 SDRAM 的下一代规格——PC133内存标准。先期投入此一与威盛电子合作研发PC133规格的内存供应商有 Micron、NEC、三星、Hyundai 和西门子。由于 SDRAM 制造技术的改进,所以原本100MHz 频率的 SDRAM 可以提升到133MHz,但是生产成本却没有太大的差距,因此 PC133 SDRAM 的价位将与现在的PC100 SDRAM 相近,采用支持133MHz 外频的芯片组、主机板和 PC133 SDRAM 所构造的 PC133环境在性价比上具有相当的市场竞争力。
