“致远”巡洋舰是民族英雄邓世昌的座舰,因此,最大程度上缕清这型军舰的结构特征即是对于先烈英灵的一种告慰。然而由于建造“致远”级巡洋舰的阿姆斯特朗·米切尔公司(Armstrong Mitchell&Co.)几经变迁,档案保存已不完整,因此目前尚未发现足以用来判明该型军舰结构的原厂图纸或技术说明书等文件。但通过对近年来发现的部分英国、日本档案的分析,并结合部分中文史料的记载,也能够大致还原该型军舰的结构样貌。
