Some features of the circulation in the YellowSea (hereafter referred to as YS) in the cold season (mid-November through mid-Apri(?) are analyzed emphatically byusing the observations of sev(?)ral large-scale surveys in recentyears together with historical data. Compared with the pre-vious studies, a wealth of observed data have firstly beenused in this study to further discuss the origin and path ofthe Yellow Sea Warm Current (YSWC). The analyses showthat the YSWC is not a direct branch of the Tsushima WarmCurrent (TSWC), but derives from the mixed water regionformed by TSWC water and the continental shelf water ofthe East China Sea (ECS). The path of the YSWC has cer-tain seasonal and interannual variations. Then, the basicfeatures of the Cheju Warm Current (CWC) discovered inrecent years and its relation to the YSWC are expounded.The studies indicate that the CWC and the YSWC comebasically from the same origin, and the main path of CWC islocated roughly in water depths of greater than 80 m north-west of Chejudo. At last, the distribution features of the Ko-rea Coastal Current (KCC) are delineated according to thenew observations. The results show that the KCC movestoward south along the 40- 50 m isobaths west of the KoreanPeninsula, and its velocity increases from north to south.
