Objective To understand the influence of medical X-ray on the lens opacification of radiation workers. Methods Radioactive workers from 248 medical institutions in Lanzhou were recruited as radiation group and 110 non-radiation workers as control group to examine the opacity of lens. Results The opacification rate of lens in the radiation group was higher than that in the control group (P <0.05). The ophthalmic haze of the workers who were over 10 years old was significantly higher than those under 10a (P < 0.05). The opacity of lens was dominated by dots. Conclusions The change of the lens of the eye is an important index to judge the damage of ionizing radiation. Long-term low-dose contact rays have some influence on the lens of the eye and radiation personnel protection should be strengthened.
