The gap between powers, that is, the gap between the hegemonic power and the second largest powers, between the hegemonic power and the rising challenge power, and the size of the gap between the hegemony power and the international trade power. The article tries to show that the power gap between big powers is an important variable that determines the trend of international trade. It will mainly proceed from two aspects: to discuss why the power gap is a reasonable variable to explain the fluctuation of international trade and its causal mechanism; The hypothesis is validated by comparing the status of world trade in 1993-2008 with the development of Sino-U.S. Relations.
