Among the British writers, Hardy has the most Chinese readers, ordinary people do not read Shakespeare, but love Hardy’s novels. As early as the 1920s after the May Fourth Movement, Xu Zhimo and other writers translated and reviewed his poems and novels. After the founding of New China, the study of Hardy in our country experienced the rejuvenation of the 1950s, the silence of the 60s, the first three decades of the 1970s, and the upsurge of the last three decades of the 1980s. After thirty years of research there have also been some new problems. The study and analysis of Hardy’s novel research is a mirror of the foreign literature research in the past 60 years in New China.
