It is an old and new topic to discuss the literary language and style of articles from the late Qing Dynasty to the May Fourth period. The reason why it is “old” is that it is the symbol of the success of the “May 4th Literary Revolution” that the vernacular was replaced by the written language of the vernacular as a social access or that the achievements of the prose after the May Fourth Movement were outstanding. This is an argument that needs to be demonstrated both inside and outside the profession common sense. The so-called “new” is due to the fact that the “May Fourth Movement” and “Late Qing” have been hooked up to highlight the significance of the literary history of this time frame, which still poses some challenges to the extant expositions.
