I. Historical Overview The Xiangzi Bridge, formerly known as the Guangji Bridge, was built on the Hanjiang River outside the East Gate of Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, and was built in the Songjiang Province for seven years (1171). At the beginning, it was a pontoon bridge and a stone pier was built in the river. The 86 ships were tied with large ropes. In more than three years, 106 ships were used, and the “Yanghan Pavilion” was built on the West Bank. In the six years to sixteen years (1179 to 1189) of the Luanxi period, there were eight piers built on the West Bank, and a pavilion was built on the pier and called the Dinghou Bridge.
