With the rapid development of developing countries led by China, their demand for energy has been growing in recent years. Since 2010, China’s demand for energy has doubled from that of 2000, and now its demand for energy accounts for about one fifth of the total world demand. According to media reports, China consumed 10.6 million barrels of crude oil a day on average, second only to the United States in 2012, ranking second in the world. Since 1995, China’s energy demand has steadily increased at an annual rate of 6%. With the pressure of urbanization and population growth, China’s demand for crude oil will continue to rise in the coming years.
