On February 18 this year, “People’s Daily” published a letter by Professor Wu Yingkai on the overburdening of primary and secondary school students at the headline of the first edition. The fact that the newspapers attach so much importance to the people’s letters is indeed a rare event for many years and is undoubtedly a welcome reform of the current journalism. The resolution of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China pointed out: “Nowadays, our party is generally good in carrying out democratic centralism, but there are still many problems.” The problem of insufficient democracy and insufficient concentration exists to varying degrees. “The resolution added: ”Without democracy there is no socialism and there will be no socialist modernization." The newspapers, however, open the door and attaching importance to people’s letters are undoubtedly important measures to promote democracy.
