Overview The pressure vessels and process piping used in refineries and petrochemical plants should theoretically employ welding processes and welding materials that will make the weld material substantially similar in strength and chemical composition to the base metal. Recently, some cracking welds were found on medium carbon steel equipment that was exposed to wet hydrogen sulfide. To this end, the hardness of the weld site measurement. The results of the tests show that most of the pressure vessels currently in use and a small amount of process piping contain very hard welds. A refinery in the Gulf Coast found that two-thirds of the pressure vessels found in pressure vessels tested with 150 ASME P-1 (carbon steel) -based materials had a Brinell hardness of more than 200H_B in the weld 26 sets of pressure
