Hearing loss due to aging is a complex process that is influenced by many factors, including environmental factors. Human temporal bone is not readily available and difficult to prepare, and animal studies can exclude environmental noise and the effects of ototoxic drugs, helping to elucidate some of the changes in human senile deafness. This study used a rat of three age groups (six months, two years, six years, four animals per group). Animals were anesthetized and the temporal bone was removed. Cochlear implants were observed under a phase-contrast microscope and the hair cells from the top to the base were recorded.
