1993年12月19日《中国青年报》有一个少见的好标题:“老挝不老万象更新”。它充分发挥了修辞功用,收到了辞工意丰的艺术效果。“老挝”——“万象”,“不”——“更”“老”——“新”,对仗工整,读来铿锵有力。“万象”字面意思是老挝的首都,同时暗含“一个国家或地区的政治、经济、文化等的状况”的意思。一词双关,一箭双雕。老挝是一个国家,而用“老”来陈述,实际上是把老挝当作人来写,老挝像一个老人历经沧桑,但没有衰老、没落的迹象。“老挝”是一个音译外来词,“老”并无实在意义,由“老挝”的“老”音义错位成“衰老”的“
