水流产生的动力水在自然界中会不断地进行循环,所以也是动力的来源之一。阳光照射使海面或陆地的水受热蒸发,水蒸气进入大气形成云。然后云里的水汽重新凝结,变成雨水降落。降落在山上的雨水,汇集成河流进入大海。水从高处往低处流动时,势能会转变为动能,因此人们在河流中间建造水库和发电厂,通过水位的高低落差,让水流的动力驱动发电机产生电力。人类从很早开始,就懂得运用天然的水流使水车推动机械来做各种工作,如灌溉、舂米、磨粉等。建造水库和水坝的费用高,而且,水坝会截断河流的自然流动,妨碍鱼及其他水中生物的活动,可能破坏生态环境。
