In 1944, I was studying in Yan’an Middle School, Comrade Li Xinghua was our language teacher. She is the daughter of Li Dazhao, one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party. Li, a tall, bright-eyed man with cheerful personality and friendly atmosphere, left a thick black short-haired man wearing a rough-gray cadre uniform worn by workers in the border regions of Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia for years. She wore thick myopia glasses, always smiling. Yan’an is a sacred place for the Chinese revolution and was the seat of the Party Central Committee at that time and the place where the revolutionary masses aspire. Yan’an Middle School teachers went all over Tiananmen Square to Yan’an. All of them are intellectuals who risked their lives for the sake of revolution and crossed the line of closure to come to Yan’an with all their hardships. Dear teacher Li is one of them.
