程大利是一个修养相当全面的艺术家和艺术理论家,也是一个具有历史使命感的人。他在主持《江苏画刊》期间,为中国现代美术的发展做出过卓越的贡献。作为出版人,他到北京主持人民美术出版社工作以后,为这个传统的老出版社在中国当代美术出版格局中的重新定位、出版资源的重组等,带来了全新的观念和气象。他的艺术随笔感情真挚,如行云流水,平静的叙事中内蕴深沉而鸷猛之心声。他与画坛其他艺术家迥然不同的经历,他广阔的视野和社交面,使得其评论文章具有别样的价值,处处可见烛照机微的平实之论。程大利的中国画作品,既不拘泥于传统,也有别于前卫水墨,所追求的是一种诗性的思想。因此他在宏阔大气的构图中,讲究的是一种整体性的把握。具象的笔墨语言,在他作品的意境中,还原为对中国传统文化在当代的全面观照。他又巧妙地把激情藏注于画面的深处,偶尔的逸笔草草,与作品的全体所显现的精神相得益彰,反映了知识分子艺术家的世界观和洞悉今日的态度。
Cheng Li-li is a well-rounded artist and theorist and also a man of historical mission. During his tenure in Jiangsu Pictorial, he made outstanding contributions to the development of modern Chinese fine arts. As a publisher, after he came to Beijing to preside over the work of People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, he brought a brand new concept and atmosphere to the repositioning of this traditional old publishing house in the publishing pattern of contemporary Chinese art and the reorganization of publishing resources. His art essay sincere feelings, such as flowing, calm narrative in the deep and fierce heart. His very different experiences with other artists in the painting circles, his vast field of vision and social interaction make his commentary articles of different kind, with the plainness of the candlelight everywhere. Cheng Dali’s Chinese paintings are neither sticking to tradition nor different from avant-garde ink and wash, and are pursuing a kind of poetic thought. Therefore, he emphasizes the grandness of the composition in a magnanimous grasp. In the artistic conception of his works, the concrete language of pen and ink reverts to a comprehensive contemplation of the Chinese traditional culture in the present age. He cleverly captivated passion in the depths of the picture, and occasional easel compliments the spirit of the whole work, reflecting the world view of intellectual artists and their insight into today’s attitude.
