《南京的陷落》是著名作家周而复继《上海的早晨》之后,经多年准备,于近期完成的系列长篇小说中的一部力作。它形象地揭露了日本帝国主义者的侵华暴行,正面描写了中华民族艰苦卓绝的抗日战争。作品场景浩大,既写正面战场,敌后战场及地下工作,又生动地再现了当时中国社会纷纭复杂的矛盾,着力表现了敌我友三方高层人物之间的斗争,周恩来、蒋介石、汪精卫、何应钦、近卫文麿以及宋美龄、宋蔼龄等人物均神态毕现,从而构成了一幅宏伟的历史画卷,具有真切的历史感和深远的启迪意义。本刊选载其中的二十二章,从本期起分两期载完,以飨读者,并以此纪念抗日战争胜利四十周年。
“The Fall of Nanjing” is a masterpiece in a series of novels that have been prepared by many famous Chinese writers and completed in the near future after “The Morning of Shanghai”. It vividly revealed the atrocities committed by the Japanese imperialists invaded China and positively described the arduous war of resistance against Japanese aggression of the Chinese nation. The vast scene of the work not only wrote a positive battlefield, a battlefield behind the enemy lines and underground work, vividly reproduced the complicated and contradictory conflicts in the Chinese society at that time, and exerted an effort to show the struggle among the top three enemy friends and foes. Zhou Enlai, Chiang Kai-shek, Wang Jingwei, He Yingqin, Wei Wen 麿 and others such as Soong Mei Ling and Akira Song all completed their own demeanor, forming a magnificent historical picture with a real sense of history and profound enlightenment. The twenty-two chapters of this journal are selected and are carried out in two installments starting from this issue to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
