通过在不同温度和食物条件下对玉米象的饲养试验,观察到玉米象的生长、发育、繁殖及形态所受的影响,在33℃以上的温度条件下,玉米象成虫虽能成活一段时间,但不能繁殖子代。以10天为年龄间隔,31℃条件下,平均世代期T=5.2146;瞬时增长率r=0.6499;周限增长率λ=1.9153;净填殖率R_6=29.6400。27℃条件下,T=6.8540;r=0.5262;λ=1.6925;R_0=36.8317。玉米粒和大米饲养出的玉米象子代成虫,在形态上具有明显的差异。
