Time for the Asian Games 2006, Doha!
The showcase[展示] event for Asian athletes, the Asian Games are back. Held every four years, the Asian Games 2006 is coming up in Doha, a beautiful city in Qatar.
Since the year 2000, Qatar has been vying[竞争] for this prestigious[享有声望的] quadrennial[四年一度的] event, trying to surpass[超越] other Asian cities. Finally, Doha gets to host the 2006 Asian Games from the 1st to 15th of December. It is the second country in West Asia to hold this event since the Iran Asian Games in 1974. For a progressive economy like Qatar, the Asian Games is a massive event, something that’dl augment[增强] the nation’s development.
Qatar began work on the Asian Games Village, also known as the Asiad Village, in 2003. This village has been built to accommodate[提供食宿] athletes and their support staff. A total of 14 multi-purpose stadiums have been refurbished[翻新] in accordance with the requirements of such a huge-scale event.
