Using the 2010 China Household Follow-up Survey (CFPS2010) data, this article examines the overall status and basic characteristics of the career expectations of Chinese children and adolescents and their gender differences. The study found that: there is a significant gender differentiation in the career expectations of children and adolescents in our country; the professional expectations of girls are concentrated; the choices of boys are more diversified; the average socio-economic status and prestige of girls’ career expectations are higher than those of boys; Girls ’career expectations tend to be feminized and boys’ career expectations tend to be masculine. On career interests, girls value a job more respectfully, help others and serve the community than boys. Making money is more of a boy’s concern. Gender differences in career expectations reflect traditional norms of gender roles and gender division of labor.
