雷州历史文化名人陈兰彬曾是晚清留美幼童的第一任监督,其后他担任了清廷派驻美国、西班牙、秘鲁的第一任公使。在其持续近九年的两项“第一”任职中,无论是作为留学监督还是驻外公使,陈兰彬都对华侨的权益做了竭尽所能的维护。 Chen Lanbin, a famous historical and cultural figure in Leizhou, served as the first supervisor of young children studying in the United States in the late Qing Dynasty. Later he served as the first minister to the United States, Spain and Peru. During his two “firsts” appointments, which lasted for nearly nine years, Chen Lanbin did his utmost to safeguard the rights and interests of overseas Chinese both as a student supervisor and a foreign minister.
