青藏高原,是我国和亚洲最高的地区,也是世界上最大的高原。在这个人们称作“世界屋脊”的地带,居住着勤劳勇敢的藏族等兄弟民族。多少年来,他们繁衍生息在祖国这块辽阔的高原上。在解放前西藏120万平方公里土地上,没有一公里的现代公路。新中国成立后,为增进民族团结,促进西藏经济发展,巩固边疆,党中央授命人民解放军修筑川藏、青藏公路。川藏公路东自成都,始建于1950年4月;青藏公路北起西宁,动工于1950年6月,两路全长4360余公里,1954年12月25日同时通车至拉萨。从此,西藏畅开了通向祖国内地的大门,第一次用现代化交通设施沟通、密切了西藏和祖国内地的联系,为巩固西南边陲和加强民族团结,促进西藏经济发展创造了重要物质条件。经过50余年的建设,西藏的道路已今非夕比。在经济腾飞的时代,特别是在西部大开发战略推动下,西藏的道路建设日新月异,有了更为广阔的内涵和深远的意义。
The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the tallest region in China and Asia, is also the largest plateau in the world. In what the people call the “Roof of the World,” there are fraternal peoples such as Tibetan who are diligent and brave. For so many years, they multiply and live on this vast plateau of the motherland. Before the liberation of Tibet 1.2 million square kilometers of land, there is no one kilometer of modern road. After the founding of New China, in order to promote national unity and promote the economic development of Tibet and consolidate the frontier, the CPC Central Committee authorized the People’s Liberation Army to build Sichuan-Tibet and Qinghai-Tibet Highway. Sichuan-Tibet Highway east of Chengdu, was founded in April 1950; Qinghai-Tibet Highway north of Xining, started in June 1950, two full-length 4360 kilometers, was opened to the Lhasa on December 25, 1954 at the same time. Since then, Tibet has opened the door to the mainland of the motherland. For the first time, it has used modern transport facilities to communicate closely with Tibet and the Mainland to create an important material condition for consolidating the southwestern border and strengthening national unity and promoting economic development in Tibet. After more than 50 years of construction, the road to Tibet has now gone up. In an era of economic growth, driven by the strategy for the development of the western region in particular, the road construction in Tibet is changing with each passing day and has a broader connotation and far-reaching significance.
