相平衡的研究对生产和科研具有重要的意义。在钢铁和合金冶炼中生产条件的控制,硅酸盐(陶瓷、水泥、耐火材料等)生产的配料比,化工生产中产品的分离和提纯等,都应用到相平衡的知识,相图又是研究相平衡的有力工具。所谓相图,就是在多相体系中,相和相的组成等如何随温度、压力或体系总组成的改变而改变,以图形表示出来,此类几何图形叫相图或状态图。对生成一个二组元不稳定化合物的三元系相图加以研究,有助于控制生产条件,选择恰当的配料比,提高生产效率,避免不必要的能源消耗。
